A great day was had by all! After a very smooth journey, we arrived in the sunshine. A hearty lunch was followed by an afternoon of beck scrambling and the water was cold! It was great fun though and the hot showers waiting for us afterwards were very welcome. We have spent the evening on an 'Alien Hunt', having fun with our friends and drinking hot chocolate!
Wow, what a day! A cooked breakfast was followed by a morning at the beach. The children really enjoyed finding out about coastal erosion and playing beach bingo. We then went on to find fossils and sea creatures. The weather was windy and bright ... but turned to torrential rain this afternoon for orienteering. Look at the photos - it didn't stop the fun! EVERYBODY ate well at tea time and we then enjoyed the tuck shop and film night.
This morning we were all back in the woods building shelters. As well as lots of building materials there was also a lot of mud! Working in teams, the children created some amazing designs which our instructors claimed were some of the best they'd seen!
Year 5 left after lunch having had an amazing time.
This afternoon Year 6 went on to do either dry slope skiing or indoor climbing - they will do the opposite activity on Friday morning before we head home. We have had a great evening doing a blindfolded night line and then the Mini Olympics.
We have just returned to the site after a full day of canoeing down the river into Whitby harbour. Along the way we stopped for lunch on an island. We also sang and played ball games ... in the canoes! We learnt an amazing number of facts about rivers and the local environment, including 'Samuel the Horse' (ask your child!).
After our final activities, we reflected on all of our learning (including some really key life skill) and bade a fond farewell to our amazing instructors. See you next year!
